CCSI Framework for Optimization, Quantification of Uncertainty and Surrogates (FOQUS) Presentation at AspenTech OPTIMIZE 2015 Conference May 4–6, 2014

CCSI Technical Director, David C. Miller, gave an invited presentation at the AspenTech conference describing the new capabilities for optimization and uncertainty quantification (UQ) that the CCSI Technical Team has developed. The presentation reviewed how FOQUS enables superstructure optimization to determine device configurations through the use of ALAMO to develop algebraic surrogate models suitable for large scale optimization for detailed process models, as well as how derivative free optimization techniques can be applied directly to the rigorous models. In addition, the presentation described how UQ can be applied to help understand the sources and effects of uncertainty in models and sub-models. The presentation generated considerable interest with several people expressing interest in licensing the tool.
