Spring 2015 CCSI Industry Advisory Board (IAB) Meeting

The semi-annual CCSI Industry Advisory Board (IAB) Program Review Meeting was held on April 22–23, 2015 in Berkeley, CA. The meeting provided a review of the overall program, as well as reviews of capabilities of the computational tools and models currently available in the CCSI Toolset and those planned prior to the end of the project. Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Fossil Energy, Dr. Julio Friedmann, and the Director of NETL's Office of Research and Development, Dr. Cindy Powell, gave keynote addresses that provided perspective on the energy landscape, recent accomplishments in carbon capture and storage as well as challenges. Technical highlights of the meeting were: (1) an initial demonstration of a new optimization under uncertainty capability in FOQUS, (2) initial results of new work to more rigorously determine diffusion coefficients utilizing wetted wall column data along with CFD models and a Bayesian statistical framework, and (3) initial model validation results utilizing new data collected by the National Carbon Capture Center. An interactive session was held with the attendees to generate input for the remaining work on the current CCSI project through January 2016 and for the next phase of CCSI. The next IAB meeting is scheduled for September 2015 in Washington, DC.
