CCSI accomplishments highlighted at 2013 AIChE Annual Meeting

Many accomplishments of NETL-led Carbon Capture Simulation Initiative (CCSI) were highlighted in an invited talk at the Industrial Sustainability Forum’s Plenary Session. The talk introduced CCSI to a broader set of potential users who can benefit from DOE’s investment in the development of the Toolset. The talk led to the identification of a new member of the Industry Advisory Board and another potential collaboration. In addition to the invited plenary talk, other components and capabilities of the CCSI Toolset were featured in a number of sessions. These included a discussion of the solid sorbent process models in two talks, the Framework for Optimization and Quantification of Uncertainty and Sensitivity (FOQUS) in two talks, the ALAMO tool for automated learning of algebraic models for optimization in three talks, including an invited plenary talk on intelligent systems, and a talk on optimizing an air separation unit for oxycombustion processes. The talks were all very well attended, in many cases with people standing in the aisles and doorways. CCSI is a collaboration among researchers at NETL, LANL, LBNL, LLNL, PNNL, Carnegie Mellon U., West Virginia U., Princeton U., Boston U., and the University of Texas.
